| This issue was addressed with improved handling of symlinks. This issue is fixed in macOS Sequoia 15.7.8, macOS Sonoma 14.8.8, macOS Tahoe 26.6. An app may be able to modify protected parts of the file system. |
| A security flaw has been discovered in mz-automation libiec61850 up to 1.6.1. This vulnerability affects the function Reporting_RCBWriteAccessHandler of the file src/iec61850/server/mms_mapping/reporting.c of the component Report Sending Path Handler. The manipulation results in free of memory not on the heap. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploit has been released to the public and may be used for attacks. Upgrading to version 1.6.2 is able to resolve this issue. The patch is identified as 5b2a69f44256b8548927d8afdd7ac5f5381abe1e. It is suggested to upgrade the affected component. The vendor was contacted early about this disclosure. |
| Dell Device Management Agent, versions prior to DDMA 26.05, contain an Improper Link Resolution Before File Access ('Link Following’) vulnerability. A low privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to Elevation of Privileges. |

A high privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to unauthorized access. |
| Dell PowerProtect Data Domain, versions 7.7.1.0 through 8.7, LTS2026 release version 8.6.1.0 through 8.6.1.10, LTS2025 release version 8.3.1.0 through 8.3.1.30, LTS2024 release versions 7.13.1.0 through 7.13.1.70 contain an improper link resolution before file access ('Link following') vulnerability. A high privileged attacker with local access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to information exposure. |
| OnionShare is an open source tool that lets you securely and anonymously share files, host websites, and chat with friends using the Tor network. Prior to 2.6.4, OnionShare CLI/Desktop follows symbolic links in cli/onionshare_cli/web/send_base_mode.py through SendBaseModeWeb.set_file_info() and stream_individual_file(), allowing remote recipients of Share or Website mode to read local files outside the selected directory. This issue is fixed in version 2.6.4. |
| Dell PowerProtect Data Domain, versions 7.7.1.0 through 8.7, LTS2026 release version 8.6.1.0 through 8.6.1.10, LTS2025 release version 8.3.1.0 through 8.3.1.30, LTS2024 release versions 7.13.1.0 through 7.13.1.70 contain an improper link resolution before file access ('Link following') vulnerability. A high privileged attacker with remote access could potentially exploit this vulnerability, leading to information disclosure. |
| Microsoft AVML before 0.17.0 could follow a symlink when opening a destination output path on Unix, allowing truncation/overwrite of the symlink target. The destructive effect is performed at open-time via O_TRUNC, and can happen before full input validation completes (“truncation-before-validation”). |
| SEPPmail Secure Email Gateway & SEPPmail Cloud before version 15.0.4.2 allows an attacker to replay & hijack a user session in the GINA web portal, as the session token is disclosed inside the URL and a HTTP header. |
| Data::NDArray::Shared versions before 0.02 for Perl create a world-readable mmap backing file and open it without O_EXCL or O_NOFOLLOW.
The segment is created in ndarray.h with open(path, O_RDWR|O_CREAT, 0666). The mode is 0666, so under the default umask 022 the file is created mode 0644 (world-readable). O_NOFOLLOW is absent, so a symlink planted at the path is followed, and O_EXCL is absent, so the open silently uses a pre-planted file instead of failing.
A "Shared" segment naturally lives in a shared directory such as /tmp or /dev/shm, where any local user can read the IPC payloads stored in the world-readable segment, and a pre-planted file or symlink at the path lets a local attacker win a pre-creation race or redirect the open. |
| A vulnerability in the `zipx.Unzip` extraction routine of Develar's app-builder allows an attacker to overwrite arbitrary files on macOS APFS by exploiting a Unicode Normalization Collision combined with symlink following behavior. APFS treats certain Unicode equivalent filenames as identical (e.g., ß ↔ ss), while app builder performs no canonical normalization before validating or writing paths. As a result, a crafted ZIP archive containing:
• a symlink entry named ss pointing to a target file, and
• a regular file named ß containing attacker controlled data,
will cause the second write to follow the symlink and overwrite the target file. |
| Linuxfabrik monitoring-plugins provides Python monitoring plugins for Icinga, Nagios, and related monitoring systems. In version 6.0.0, the logfile check legacy database migration moved a predictable path from /tmp with os.rename() and allowed a local user controlling the plugin account to place a symlink that would be followed by sqlite3.connect() during a root-run check. |
| G DATA Total Security Backup Service Link Following Local Privilege Escalation Vulnerability. This vulnerability allows local attackers to escalate privileges on affected installations of G DATA Total Security. An attacker must first obtain the ability to execute low-privileged code on the target system in order to exploit this vulnerability.
The specific flaw exists within the Backup Service. By creating a symbolic link, an attacker can abuse the service to delete a file. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to escalate privileges and execute arbitrary code in the context of SYSTEM. Was ZDI-CAN-28665. |
| Improper Link Resolution Before File Access ('Link Following') vulnerability in QFileSystemEngine in the Qt corelib module on Windows which potentially allows Symlink Attacks and the use of Malicious Files. Issue originates from CVE-2024-38081. The vulnerability arises from the use of the GetTempPath API, which can be exploited by attackers to manipulate temporary file paths, potentially leading to unauthorized access and privilege escalation. The affected public API in the Qt Framework is QDir::tempPath() and anything that uses it, such as QStandardPaths with TempLocation, QTemporaryDir, and QTemporaryFile.
This issue affects all version of Qt up to and including 5.15.18, from 6.0.0 through 6.5.8, from 6.6.0 through 6.8.1. It is fixed in Qt 5.15.19, Qt 6.5.9, Qt 6.8.2, 6.9.0 |
| The mv, cp, and rm file utilities exposed within the ExtremeXOS (EXOS) shell environment fail to safely canonicalize paths and follow symbolic links outside of the intended privilege boundary. An attacker with low-privilege CLI access can create a symbolic link that references a privileged filesystem location and then invoke the affected utilities to read, modify, or replace security-critical files outside of their authorized scope. Under certain conditions, this may enable escalation to root-level access and persistent modification of the device software stack. Exploitation is possible remotely by an attacker holding a low-privilege account, or locally via the serial console.
Extreme would like to thank Hadrien Barral (Université Gustave Eiffel) and Georges-Axel Jaloyan (French Ministry of the Interior) for responsible disclosure of their findings. |
| nebula-mesh is a self-hosted control plane for Slack Nebula mesh virtual private network. Prior to version 0.3.2, newly-minted operator API key exposed in redirect URL (Referer, history, proxy logs). This issue has been patched in version 0.3.2. |
